Louisa Wickard lives and paints in Cumberland, Maine. She is inspired by the woods of Maine and
the adventures of contemporary suburban life.
Her work draws on memories of growing up on a remote island where she
lived without electricity and running water.
She is interested in reinventing this rugged existence through the pared-down,
almost calligraphic depiction of tree trunks and roots. She is also interested in highlighting the
everyday, mundane experiences that make her current lifestyle frequently appear unremarkable.
